Flu Clinics/COVID Vaccine

We have Flu vaccinations in stock. Please ring the surgery if you are under a risk group to book an appointment. You will also have received a text if you are eligible.

Patients between 50 and 64 who have not had a flu jab may now book in with the surgery to receive one. This is free of charge.

COVID Vaccine

The Pfizer BioNTech vaccine has now been approved for use and the NHS will be starting to
offer this to priority groups as soon as supplies arrive.
When will a vaccine be available?
The first, limited, deliveries of the vaccine started week beginning 7 December and the NHS is offering them to those who need them most based on the guidance from the Joint Committee for Vaccinations and Immunisations.
Who will get a vaccine?
The vaccine will be offered to those at greatest risk from COVID-19 first, people over 80 years old and prioritised front line health and social care workers. This is based on the guidance from the Joint Committee for Vaccinations and Immunisations which is available here. As more supplies of the vaccine or alternative vaccines become available it will be
rolled out in phases to people aged between 80 and 50 and those who are clinically extremely vulnerable.

People will be invited for a vaccine when it is their turn so please avoid contacting your local hospital or GP practice.
Where and when can I get a vaccine?
To start with, vaccines will only be available at hospital ‘hubs’ where the Pfizer vaccine can be stored safely. However, arrangements are also being put in place to offer vaccines from a number of different locations as more supplies and different vaccines become available. These include local vaccine services provided by GPs and pharmacists and new dedicated
vaccination centres to make sure that everyone who needs a vaccine is able to get one.We will be contacting more and more people over the coming days and weeks, as well as protecting those of our staff who are at greatest risk. Please don’t contact your NHS to seek a vaccine, we will contact you.
Further information and how you can help us
We will share further information with you as it becomes available. In the meantime, there are three things people can do to help:
 Please don’t contact the NHS to seek a vaccine – we will contact you when it’s the right time to you to have yours
 Please act on your invite when it comes, and make sure you attend your appointments when you arrange them;
 Please continue to abide by all the social distancing and hand hygiene guidance, which will still save lives.

We are open despite the COVID Pandemic

PLEASE TRY AND AVOID COMING TO RECEPTION JUST FOR QUERIES OR DROPPING REPEAT PRESCRIPTIONS AS THIS WILL MAKE IT DIFFICULT TO KEEP SOCIAL DISTANCING WITH PATIENTS WAITING FOR AN APPOINTMENT.

Doctors and Advanced nurse practitioner appointments will still be triaged by phone before arranging a face to face appointment.

Nurses clinics are fully operational and you may be invited in for your annual check up including vaccinations.

MASKS SHOULD BE WARN AT ALL TIMES when attending any appointment at the surgery.

PLEASE TRY AND COME ON TIME FOR YOUR APPOINTMENT. IF YOU ARE HERE TOO EARLY YOU MAY HAVE TO WAIT IN YOUR CAR OR OUTSIDE AS WE TRY AND RESTRICT HOW MANY PATIENTS ARE IN THE BUILDING.

PLEASE CONTINUE TO DO YOUR PRESCRIPTIONS ON LINE / VIA CHEMIST/ OR IN THE POST BOX OUTSIDE TO AVOID CONTACT INSIDE THE BUILDING.

  • Our top priority is to keep patients safe.
  • Phone and video appointments are safe and effective. If we need to see you face to face we will, but often, we can get all the information that we need by talking to you.
  • When patients come into the practice, we have to clean frequently. We have to put on and take off personal protective equipment, which takes time. We can treat more patients when we do phone and video appointments.
  • Social distancing – we are keeping the number of people in GP practices low so that there is plenty of space.
  • Across Leeds, lots of GP practice staff are isolating because they have COVID-19 symptoms or a positive test. We need to keep staff safe to keep services running.
  • We have worked hard in a difficult situation to come up with new innovative ways of working so that we can treat patients safely during the COVID-19 pandemic. We are proud of how well GP practices have adapted.

Our promise to you

  • We will continue to work hard to keep you safe and provide safe, effective and compassionate care. We are here for you.

What we ask from you.

  • Please don’t go to your GP practice if you have COVID symptoms or a positive test.
  • Our phone lines are very busy due to the current exceptionally high level of demand.
  • Information about COVID restrictions, getting a test, self-isolating and facemask exemptions is online at www.gov.uk/coronavirus, or from the Leeds City Council helpline. Please don’t phone your practice for this information.
  • If you need advice on minor illness, such as diarrhoea, skin conditions, or conjunctivitis you can contact a pharmacy instead of your GP practice.
  • We know that things aren’t perfect. Sometimes it is hard to get through on the phone and some patients don’t like phone and video consultations. Please be patient – we are working hard to provide a good service in a very challenging situation.
  • There has been an increase in patients being rude and abusive to staff. We understand that patients are in stressful and difficult situations but we will not accept abuse of staff.

The majority of our patients are polite and supportive and we want to say a huge thank you for adapting to the changes that we have made and for working with us.

A clinical trial during the swine ‘flu pandemic showed that an earlier version of Germ Defence successfully reduced respiratory infection frequency, severity and GP consultations; the results were published in The Lancet.  The Germ Defence website has been updated for COVID-19. This has been endorsed as a national Urgent Public Health Research (UPHR) study by Chris Whitty, the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) for England.

New Ways of Consulting

NEW WAYS OF CONSULTIING

  • Use E-CONSULT- This is a new way of communicating with the practice but also gives you self- help guidance for most conditions. We would prefer you to use this method to contact us if your problem is not requiring a same day appointment. You can even ask for administrative queries this way too. The e consults are normally dealt with within 48 hours.
  • This allows staff to deal with more urgent calls. PLEASE TRY AND USE E-CONSULT INSTEAD OF EMAILING THE PRACTICE.
  • ACCURX- VIDEO CONSULTING AND TEXTING-The clinician may ask you to do a video call or send photos through your mobile. If they still need you to come in they will book you a face to face. We can even attach your sick note to a text message now so that can be forwarded to your employer.
  • ONLINE ORDERING OF REPEAT MEDICATIONS- We will only process scripts on the telephone for housebound and frail patients. All other patients are encouraged to gain access to their online account. You can order any medicines this way including items which are not on the repeat. PLEASE CALL INTO THE SURGERY VIA THE SIDE DOOR WITH A VALID ID AND THE RECEPTIONIST WILL PRINT OFF YOUR LOG IN DETAILS. PLEASE REMEMBER THAT THE LOG IS ONLY VALID FOR 7 DAYS AFTER IT IS PRINTED.
  • Healthy IO- ACR project for patients with diabetes. A pilot programme to monitor urine albumin:creatinine ratio (ACR) annually for patients with diabetes is being provided at this practice by Healthy.io. This enables patients with diabetes to test their kidney function from home. With your permission, we will share your contact details with Healthy.io to enable them to contact you and send you a testing kit. This will help identify those at risk of kidney disease and proactively manage early interventions for the benefit of patient care. If you do not wish to be contacted by Healthy.io, you will have the opportunity to say so by replying to the text message sent from our practice. Patients who are eligible for this will be sent a message soon.
